The Abha International Airport was established in 1975, and it opened to the large public just two years later. It is one of the highest-located airports in the Arabian Peninsula, peaking proud at 6,858 feet (2,090 m) above mean sea level.
While it also served as a military base in the past, the Abha airport now serves mostly public air transport for the nearby cities of Abha and Khamis Mushait.
The airport is one of the largest travel and transportation hubs in the ‘Asir region, which is closest to the border with Yemen. As a result, the airport accommodates flights from and to Aden and Sana’a in the neighboring country.
Abha airport is located just 20 km away from Abha. It has only one terminal and one asphalt runway. The landing area also disposes of hangars, shops and other air travel services.
