Landmark temples including Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Pho and Wat Arun sit alongside the Giant Swing and the Erawan Shrine, offering extraordinary architectural heritage within the city itself. The dining and shopping scene spans everything from high-end malls to celebrated street markets, while annual music and film festivals reinforce Bangkok’s reputation as a cultural capital. For business travellers, the city offers a well-developed infrastructure of international hotels, meeting facilities and transport links across the region.

A Brief History of Don Mueang Airport

Don Mueang is one of the oldest international airports in the world, recording its first official flights in 1914 and operating its first commercial service in 1924. For most of the twentieth century it served as Bangkok’s principal international gateway, known for a period as Bangkok International Airport. The facility closed for renovation in 2006 and reopened in 2007 under its current name, having expanded from one terminal to three and raised its passenger handling capacity to 40 million per year. Today it functions primarily as a hub for low-cost, charter and domestic services, complementing Suvarnabhumi Airport as the city’s second international airport.
