Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport is one of the largest airports in Central Asia and the second-busiest in Kazakhstan, currently handling over five million passengers per year and servicing more than 140 domestic flights each week. The airport sits at 355 m (1,165 ft) above sea level, just 17 km from the city centre, and is accessible by car, train, metro, and bus shuttle.
Key airport specifications:
The terminal spans 25,000 square metres and includes a large duty-free area and dedicated VIP lounges.
Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport offers convenient connections across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Approximate private jet flight times from NQZ include:
Charter flights are also available to a wide range of domestic Kazakhstani destinations, including Almaty, Oral, and Aktau. Those with schedule flexibility may find value in our empty-leg flights on select routes.
Flying privately through Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport means bypassing public queues entirely. Boarding is handled through a separate process, with complimentary transfers between the terminal and your aircraft. Prime Jet Services provides the following as standard across our charter programme:
On arrival at NQZ, limousine transfer is available on request. Our ground team coordinates directly with your flight crew to ensure a smooth transition from aircraft to vehicle, removing any need to rely on public transport or navigate the city independently on arrival.
Founded in 1830, Nursultan has undergone a remarkable transformation to become a leading centre for business, culture, and diplomacy in Central Asia, with a current population of over 1.2 million. The city was known as Akmola, then Astana between 1998 and 2019, before being renamed Nursultan. Its skyline reflects this rapid evolution, combining bold contemporary architecture with culturally significant landmarks.
Notable attractions include:
The airport opened in 1931 under the name Akmolinsk, initially serving as a landing facility for Soviet military aircraft. It continued to operate primarily as a military base until 1963, when authorities decided to transition it to civilian use; commercial passenger services commenced three years later. For approximately four decades, the airport operated with a single terminal and modest infrastructure, though the runway was extended to its current length of 3,500 m during this period. A significant overhaul completed in 2005 introduced the current 25,000 square-metre passenger terminal, substantially increasing the airport’s capacity and passenger experience.
